“Although we are defending champions we must know that was the last tournament; but we feel confident in putting on good show,” Menzies said. He praised the overall composition of his team, singling out midfielder Khadija Shaw. “Everyone knows that we have Khadija Shaw, who is one of the top, young female players, and, hopefully, we rally around her. But we feel we have a group to get us to the next round,” Menzies said.
Jamaica is in Group B with Curacao, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago. They will begin defense of their title against St. Vincent and the Grenadines Thursday, at 4 pm.
Group A is comprised of Bermuda, Haiti and Puerto Rico. The championship will run until October 23, with the top three teams advancing to the 2015 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship slated for Honduras in December.
